Description:
	The APS Image Database contains images digitized from the Palomar Sky 
	Survey (POSS) photographic plates.  The operation of the Automated 
        Plate Scanner (APS) and the scanning procedures and parameters are 
        described in detail in Pennington et al. (1993).  All 664 fields with 
        |b| > 20 degrees and both the blue and red (O and E) plates in each 
        field have been scanned in threshold densitometry mode.  Images larger
        than the photographic noise limit of 25 microns are entered into a 
        fully-documented positionally searchable on-line database available 
        through the URL http://spihr.spa.umn.edu/.  Pixel size is 5 microns, 
        or 0.33 arcseconds.  Positions are on the same astrometric grid as 
        the APS Catalog of the POSS I.  The APS Image Database is supported 
        by NASA and the University of Minnesota.
