Description:
The non-variable stars brighter than 5.0 mag in the equatorial zone between
declinations + 10 deg and - 10 deg were adopted by IAU Commission 25 in
1970 as primary standards for the Johnson and Morgan UBV system of 1966.
Fainter HR stars in the same zone were chosen as secondary standards.
Data for the primary standards are taken from a Cape Royal Observatory
Mimeogram and are presented in tblii.dat. It gives the weighted mean V
magnitudes and B-V colors based upon the best series available up to the
end of 1966. The table is believed to provide a consistent UBV system
over the southern sky. Most of the secondary standard star data, given
in tbliv.dat, were published in Mon. Notes Astron. Soc. S. Afr. (22,23).
Introduction:
The formats of tblii.dat and tbliv.dat are the same. The first column
includes the HD number. Subsequent columns list mean V magnitude, B-V and
U-B color indices, dispersion and total weight of V magnitudes (unit weight
corresponds to s.e. +_ 0.010 mag), dispersion and total weight of B-V
colors (unit weight corresponds to s.e. +- 0.007 mag), the weight of the
U-B color, and the source if from one source only.
C = measured at Cape only
A = measured at Catalina Station, AZ only
* = several series are discordant (details are given in table III and
table V in the printed paper)
. after a datum = 0.005
Each file contains 2 records of header.
