About This Page

This web site on space exploration was created as my (Robert B. Lobbia’s) Eagle Service Project. As a Boy Scout striving towards the highest rank of Eagle Scout, I commenced, in August 1997, to plan this ambitious project. A letter, describing my intended project, was sent to various organizations, including the NASA Online Educational Resources page. Responding to my letter sent to the previous organization was Jim Gass, himself specifically from the Astronomical Data Center. From this beginning I organized the structure and content of the page and a volunteer labor-force of 17 fellow scouts, friends, kin, and contacts (all listed below). Each helper was delegated a specific task, I created for them, to complete by a set date. The magnitude of this page required all the helpers and an efficient division of their collective labor. This page, then, is a product of the helpers’ work as a direct result of my leadership—the very ends required of an Eagle Scout candidate. This page is designed and dedicated to serve those seeking knowledge about space exploration. It is not an in depth analysis and description of space exploration, rather it provides a survey of the field in a comprehensive and concise fashion. I would like to offer special thanks to all who contributed to the making of the Space Exploration Web Site, especially Jim Gass, my contact and the host of this page and Chris Hampton, the web page designer who implemented, with his own savory spices and skill, the plan I provided him of this page. An approximate gross man-hour input of 225 hours went into the making of this page which was completed on November 23, 1997.
